Dance Is The New Black: Making Contemporary Dance Cool

Summer is here – and with summer comes the guilty pleasure of catching up on some reality TV like America’s Got Talent, X Factor and the popular So You Think You Can Dance. Though most of us are not as coordinated as some of the amazing dancers featured in those shows, it is truly a sight to behold when there’s an opportunity to see exceptional dancers perform live on stage.
If you’re still craving for some contemporary dance after summer ends, Centre In The Square has you covered.
You’re in for a treat – not only will we have previous So You Think You Can Dance contestants performing amazing routines on The Centre’s stage with Shaping Sound, we also will have the amazing Ailey II grace our hall with some powerful and energetic choreography.
The talented dancers of Ailey II will be here on October 21 and are sure to captivate us with their strength and agility. Under the artistic direction of Troy Powell, this critically-acclaimed company will present vibrant performances that are timeless classics from Alvin Ailey’s repertoire and thrilling new works by hot new choreographers.
Coming to warm us up on February 6, Shaping Sound creators Travis Wall, Nick Lazzarini, Teddy Forance and Kyle Robinson will thrill us with an electrifying mash-up of dance styles and musical genres featuring a dynamic company of contemporary dancers previously starring on Dancing With the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance.Expect explosive choreography showcasing dynamic rhythm, speed and physical strength.
If you were blown away by the crazy stunts of Les 7 doigts de la main and the dynamic artistry of Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, you will not be disappointed with either of these great shows.
