Taking part in Mardi Gras might seem like a far away fantasy in the frigid weather we’ve had, but you’ll be happy to know that we’re bringing the warmth and spirit of New Orleans when the Preservation Hall Jazz Band makes its debut The Centre.
Bringing the fun and all that delicious New Orleans-style jazz on March 10, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band has been wowing international audiences for over half a century. Legendary players like George Lewis, Sweet Emma Barrett and Kid Thomas Valentine, all rooted in the formative years jazz, were its original stars. That generation is long gone now, yet the band still performs at the same hall in the French Quarter, and tours around the world for more than 150 days a year.

Mark Braud, who plays the trumpet and does backing vocals, says the band’s universal appeal is what allows them to cross over into so many different musical communities. “One day you may catch us performing a ballet at a performing arts theater, the next we’re in Montreal or Montreaux or Newport”, he says. “It’s truly a testament to the universal message of what we do.”
