We had a chat with Canadian musicians, Danny Michel and Jeremy Fisher to get the inside scoop on what to expect during their collaborative OnStage concert on October 14.
Having performed shows together before, Danny and Jeremy will join on stage October 14 for the first time at Centre In The Square. “We’ll be learning each other’s songs, and we’ll go back and forth doing both of our songs but doing them together” says Danny. When asked, Danny said his favourite part about collaborating with other musicians is the opportunity to get outside the box and outside your comfort zone musically. “It’s very safe to play your own show all the time so when I play with Jeremy it’s a lot of fun. He’s a great guy and a great friend and we’ll have a lot of musical fun.” According to Jeremy, “collaborating with others brings some camaraderie into the mix, not to mention different textures to the sound that I can’t make by myself.”
Danny Michel and Jeremy Fisher are just one of the intimate OnStage shows at The Centre in 2015/16 with more to be announced. The OnStage programming features Canadian musicians like Danny and Jeremy. When asked what it means to be a Canadian artist this is how each musician responded:
Danny Michel: After doing so much work in Central America, being a Canadian musician makes me feel very humbled and very lucky. We’re from a very fortunate country, we have a lot. When I travel and work in Belize it’s a lot rougher and tougher for an artist to even find equipment, let alone find somewhere to play, or find a way to record, so I feel very lucky.
Jeremy Fisher: It sometimes feels like being in a large extended family. It doesn’t take long to get to know most people who are touring around doing the same kind of thing. I think we have such a vibrant community in part because a lot of us grew up with great music programs and teachers in schools.
Make sure you get your tickets to watch these two Canadian musicians and friends collaborate live on stage on October 14.
