Musical married couple, Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet insist their relationship started out professionally, according to an article in The National Post. Melissa was hoping Luke would produce her album. He ended up producing three of them before the pair put their solo music careers on hold and became Whitehorse in 2010.
But where were they before? Luke had already been nominated in 2006 and 2011 for a Juno Award in the category Adult Alternative Album of the Year. He’d toured with Sara McLachlan, Blue Rodeo, Oh Susanna, and also supported James Blunt on a Canada tour. His 2008 album, Blood’s Too Rich, won that year’s Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Album of the Year.
Melissa had sung backup for Sarah McLachlan, provided vocals for several Blue Rodeo songs, and can even be heard on Luke’s 2010 album Steel City Trawler. Some fans may recognize her song “Rooftop” from the 2005 soundtrack CD of TV’s Degrassi: The Next Generation.
They’ve sold out many of their shows, including their OnStage performance at The Centre in 2014 as well as two shows at the 2,700-seater Massey Hall in Toronto. Shortly after they perform at the Centre In The Square on November 21, they’ll be heading south of the border to continue their tour, so you won’t get a chance to see them live again for a while.
