Award-Winning Musical, ONCE Has Announced Their New Cast

ONCE has released their new cast that will take the stage here on April 14. ONCE has won eight 2012 Tony Awards® including Best Musical and winner of the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The musical has ran for more than 1,100 performances on Broadway with acclaimed international productions from London and Melbourne to Japan and South Korea. ONCE, was also named Best Musical by the New York Drama Critics’ Circle, Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle and Lucille Lortel Awards.
ONCE features a very impressive ‘behind-the-scenes’ lineup, starting with the Academy Award-winning music and lyrics of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová; award-winning Irish playwright and screenwriter, Enda Walsh (Penelope, Hunger, The New Electric Ballroom), direction by the acclaimed Scottish director of Black Watch, John Tiffany; movement by Steven Hoggett (Black Watch, American Idiot); and music supervision and orchestrations by Martin Lowe (Mamma Mia!).
For those of you unfamiliar with the new hit musical ONCE, it is based on the Academy Award-winning film. It tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one fateful week, their unexpected friendship and collaboration evolves into a powerful but complicated romance, heightened by the raw emotion of the songs they create together. Brought to the stage by an award-winning team of visionary artists and featuring an ensemble cast of gifted actor/musicians, ONCE is a musical celebration of life and love.
The 2016 cast at Centre In The Square will feature Sam Cieri as “Guy” and Mackenzie Lesser-Roy as “Girl,” along with Patricia Bartlett, Jenn Chandler, Barry DeBois, Nyssa Duchow, Liam Fennecken, Lynn Flickinger, Marlene Ginader, Isaac Haas, John Hays, Julia Hoffmann, Angel Lin, Tom McGovern, Bristol Pomeroy, Adam Huel Potter, Theodora Silverman, Dan Tracy, Grant Alan Watkins, and Luke Wygodny.
Get to know some of the ONCE cast a little better:
SAM CIERI (Guy) was born in Boca Raton, Florida. After high school, Sam went from being a dueling piano player at The Mirage in Las Vegas to playing music in the New York City subways to pay the bills. After a quick stint as a mo­torcycle salesman, he decided to come to the theater. Most recently Sam was seen in Rock of Ages as Drew.
MACKENZIE LESSER-ROY (Girl) is an actress known for her role in ‘Salamander’ in 2009.  She also had roles in Spring Awakening (Wendla), Swee­ney Todd (Beggar Woman), The Threepenny Opera (Jenny).
PATRICIA BARTLETT (Baruška). Was part of the National tour of Flashdance (Hannah). Patricia has her B.M., NCSA; M.M., MSM; opera, Juilliard.
JENN CHANDLER (Bank Manager). Regional favorites: Macbeth (Malcom/Cellist), 45 Seconds from Broadway (Megan Woods), The Mousetrap (Miss Casewell). Training: B.Mu. Cello Perfor­mance, BYU; M.A. Classical Acting, LAMDA.
NYSSA DUCHOW (Ex-Girlfriend) started violin at five and graduated from the Webster Conservatory in musical theater. She’s fiddled all over the country as principle roles in Ring of Fire, Cotton Patch Gospel, and Almost Heaven.
LIAM FENNECKEN (Švec). Proud graduate: B.A. Theatre, Penn State. National tour: Ameri­can Idiot (Ens., u/s Will). Peter Pan 360 (Smee/ Nana). Former member award winning a cap­pella groups, Penn State Statesmen and Hyannis Sound.
MARLENE GINADER (Réza) Select credits: Chelsea Hotel: The Songs of Leonard Cohen (Jane), Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story (Mary Lou), Tough! (Tina), Tiny Replicas (Dayna), Pharaoh Serket (Zalira). Marlene is a graduate of Vancouver’s Studio 58 Professional Theater Conservatory.
 ISAAC HAAS (Andrej). Off-Broadway: Peace Love and Cupcakes the Musical. Regional and NYC: Jesus Christ Superstar (Judas), A Midsum­mer Night’s Dream, The Legend of Jim Cullen. Isaac graduated from CAP21 conservatory and enjoys acting, singing, songwriting and making doughnuts.
 JOHN HAYS (Billy) Regional: Grease (Roger), Rent (Roger), The Buddy Holly Story (Joe Mauldin, u/s Buddy), Ring of Fire (Mark), Pump Boys and Dinettes (Jackson), A Soldiers Play (Lt. Byrd).
