David Crosby, a venerable solo artist who is also a former member of The Byrds; Crosby, Stills & Nash; and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, will be playing at Centre In The Square on Friday, September 2. Kitchener is the first stop of the Canadian half of Crosby’s late-summer tour.

Crosby, who rose to fame with the group the Byrds, joined forces with Stephen Stills from Buffalo Springfield and Graham Nash from the Hollies to form Crosby, Stills, and Nash. They released their first album in May of 1969, and it became an immediate hit. Then in August, the trio, along with Neil Young, played their first gig at Woodstock.

Crosby, a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, has produced four solo albums so far, and two more are slated for release this year. His 2014 release, Croz, entered the Billboard Charts in five different categories: Top 200 Chart – #36, Top Independent Album Chart – #6, Top Folk Album Chart – #2, Top Internet Sales Chart – #7, and Top Digital Album Sales Chart – #72.

Crosby expanded his repertoire and formed a jazz-flavoured trio in 1995 with Raymond and Jeff Pevar, called CPR (Crosby, Pevar, Raymond). For someone whose musical career began almost 40 years before social media appeared, Crosby is surprisingly active on both Facebook and Twitter. He’s known for his outspokenness and social activism, and social media has given him another outlet to reach his supporters.
