Brent Butt Headlines the K-W Comedy Festival
One of Canada’s Funniest Men Will be Here Next Month
Brent Butt understands Canada: born and raised in the small farming community of Tisdale, Saskatchewan (population 3000), he’s travelled across the country and back more times than Corner Gas had guest stars. (Among them, by the way, were Gordon Pinsent, Michael Bublé, Kiefer Sutherland, David Suzuki, Colin Mochrie, Jann Arden, Vicki Gabereau, Seamus O’Regan,…well, you get the point.)
Although Butt is known for his comedy, did you know he played bit parts on 2000’s Duets, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Becoming Dick (a TV movie directed by Bob Saget), and appeared in The Kids in the Hall, The X-Files, Millennium, and Cold Squad?
(For any X-Philes out there, Butt appeared in Season 5’s “Bad Blood.”)
His blast-off to comedic fame started in the last decade:
• Brent was named “Best Male Stand-Up in Canada” at the 2001 Canadian Comedy Awards and was subsequently selected to represent his country on the WORLD COMEDY TOUR in Australia.
• He performed on the CBC 50th Anniversary Special, All-Star Comedy Homecoming, where he had the honour of performing alongside the most noted comedic minds from the past 5 decades of Canadian entertainment.
• Brent hosted the Juno Awards and a performance gala celebrating Saskatchewan’s centennial for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in 2005.
• In 2008, Brent was awarded the Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy Award at the Banff World Media Festival. Other recipients include John Candy, Bob Newhart, Tracey Ullman, Chuck Lorre, and Nathan Lane, and Kathryn Hahn.
This decade was hardly any different:
• In 2010, his new series, Hiccups, had 1.9 million viewers on its first night. The show lasted two seasons.
• In 2013, Brent was honoured with a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to community and country.
• He released two movies in 2014: the comedic mystery No Clue and the much-anticipated Corner Gas: The Movie.
• And for all you Corner Gas fans, an animated series is coming out in 2018.
In the meantime, Brent will be headlining the K-W Comedy Festival this year. Come see one of Canada’s comedic geniuses perform live on our stage as part of the Festival’s Opening Gala on March 2. Get your tickets now.
