A New Sound for Bahamas, A New Journey for Tim Baker

Afie Jurvanen, who performs as Bahamas, sent out a message in his January/18 LP release, Earthtones: “If there was now an opportunity for me to reach out to him, I’d say ‘You’re an asshole, but I love you anyway.’ And we can build on that,” he told Exclaim!
The song in question, “Bad Boys Need Love Too,” is a message to his father, who didn’t participate in Jurvanan’s youth. Now a father himself, Jurvanan understands even more so how important a father is to his children.

A jump from his usual folk sensibilities, Earthtones is a move into a new sound for Jurvanen, and it’s done only good for him. Post City Toronto ran the headline, “Bahamas’ Afie Jurvanen on overcoming burnout to create his best album yet: The Juno winner returns with the best album he’s ever made.” The Globe & Mail called him “a gifted guitarist and cool-breeze melodist.”
The Star opened its review with the following: “Afie Jurvanen is already the sort of singer/songwriter of whom other singer/songwriters ‘in the know’ speak in reverent tones and Canada’s most understated guitar god, to boot…”
The show’s special guest is Tim Baker, former lead singer for Hey Rosetta! Making Toronto his home base now, Baker was listed in Now’s 2018 predictions of “Toronto musicians to watch in 2018: singer/songwriter edition.”
In the summer of 2017, Tim spent time in the studio with producer and close friend Marcus Paquin, narrowing down over 30 songs into a single, cohesive record. The work they produced represents Tim at his core—a wonderfully imaginative songwriter, a thoughtful poet, a playful arranger, and a technically profound musician.

This week, on November 8 @ 8PM, two talented Canadian musicians will perform a night of music that comes from the heart. Get your tickets now.
